How much do you know about this instrument?
- LEVEL I - For true beginners! No experience needed
- LEVEL II AND BEYOND - Checklists below are suggestions, not hard and fast requirements. If you can do most of the objectives in one level, then lean towards leveling up! Reach out if you have any questions!
LEVEL I OBJECTIVES:
- No prerequisites!
- Basic right hand “bum ditty” technique
- Basic chords with your left hand
- Simple songs in standard tuning to apply right and left hand techniques
- Near the end, begin to work on “drop thumb” technique with your right hand
LEVEL II OBJECTIVES:
- Become familiar with the history and functionality of double tuning on the banjo
- Learn all of the primary chords used in double tuning
- Learn common standard Old Time tunes in double tuning on clawhammer banjo
- Learn and apply the following left hand skills in the tunes you learn: hammer-on, pull-off, slide, drop thumb
